Our cottage is located at the very edge of the eastern Kawartha region. Just north of Highway 7, to the east of Havelock is Belmont Lake which is connected to Crowe Lake by the Crowe River. The river is not navigable by motor because there is a dam (which controls the water flow out of Belmont and down to the Trent System), and several sets of rapids. It is a designated canoe route and with some portaging its possible to navigate the stretch of water between Belmont and Crowe Lakes.
Havelock is our closest small town and has a 24 hour supermarket, Tim Hortons, a tourist information centre, a couple of small eateries and a bakery/pizza place. Once a thriving railway town, it’s now a quieter Highway 7 pass-through. The Havelock Country Music Jamboree brings excitement for a week in August as top names in the country music industry roll into town.
Marmora is to the east and the next stop along Highway 7. If you like tennis, there’s a couple of courts which are free for use. They are right on the river so its great to take a cooling swim after an energetic game. Please feel free to use the tennis racquets and balls we’ve provided for you at the cottage. The tourist information centre is very informative and on Saturdays in the summer, there is a great farmer’s market. Marmora has a supermarket and some nice shops on the street that bisects Highway 7 at the lights.
