Welcome to Osprey Cottage, our waterfront retreat in the beautiful Kawartha area of Ontario, Canada. You’ll find us just about half way between Toronto to the west and Ottawa to the east, with our great cities around two and a half hours in either direction. To the south is Northumberland County with rolling hills, rivers and woodland, and the beaches of Lake Ontario. To the north, lakes and forest of the Canadian Shield. Go to Our Region for more information on towns, villages and attractions in this part of the Kawarthas.

It’s no wonder that many of our guests come back over and over again and love every minute of their stay. They love the privacy; great swimming in the summer and sitting in the hot tub as the snow falls in winter; our comfortable beds, the fabulous views of the river from the wide expanse of windows; the warmth from the wood stove and romantic ambience, and all the little touches that make Osprey Cottage an experience in itself.

The three kilometre drive along our country road brings you to our little piece of paradise on the gently flowing Crowe River. This is a haven for wildlife as our guest book shows. This year there have been sightings of deer, elk, moose (yes, we even have them in the Kawarthas!), osprey, heron, beaver, otter and a host of other woodland birds and animals.

There’s 150ft of waterfront with a shallow entry which is great for wading, and launching the kayaks. The water is around 8ft deep in the middle of the river and is beautifully warm for swimming in the summer. There is such a gently current, you barely notice it. Upstream, the river is unobstructed for a kilometre or two before you reach rapids, but they are navigable by kayak and canoe. Downstream, there are rapids in sight of the cottage which are also easy to get over and then you have a clear run into Crowe Lake. You might just want to sit on the dock and take in the view so we have put Muskoka chairs there for you. There’s also fishing equipment, outdoor games, two kayaks and a pedalboat.

The deck along the front of the cottage is perfect for lazing away those summer days, or you could just relax in the hot tub after a day of hiking or snowmobiling in winter, before sitting around the campfire to tell stories and sing a few songs.
